About AK Mountain View Family Farm

Our Story

AK Mountain View Family Farm was founded in 2022 in Fairbanks, Alaska just 9 miles up Chena Hot Springs Road.  Our family is passionate about our farm and the many blessings it provides us. We take great pride in the environment we have created, where fresh air and healthy livestock thrive. Working closely with nature has given us a deep appreciation for the land and the many gifts it offers. We believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the joy of farming and the satisfaction that comes from growing your own food. With this in mind, we would like to open the doors of our farm to others, inviting them to share in this wonderful journey. We hope to offer workshops and hands-on experiences where people can learn about sustainable farming practices, the importance of environmental stewardship, and the benefits of growing your own protein and vegetables. By sharing our knowledge and resources, we aim to inspire others to connect with nature and understand the impact of clean, nutritious food on their lives. We believe that access to these blessings can foster a more mindful and healthy community. It is our dream that our farm becomes a place of learning, sharing, and enjoyment for all who visit, allowing others to appreciate the beauty of nature just as we do.

What is a herd share?

A herdshare (short for "herd ownership share") is an arrangement where several people jointly own a dairy animal or herd—like cows or goats—instead of buying milk from a store or farm.

Here's what it means:

  • You buy a share in a herd or a single animal. That makes you a part-owner.

  • You pay a monthly boarding fee to a farmer who feeds, houses, and milks the animals.

  • Since you're a part-owner, you're entitled to a portion of the milk produced—usually raw (unpasteurized) milk.

  • You don’t buy the milk. You're getting milk from your own animal..

The owner(s) pays a one time share fee and a monthly boarding fees in return for access to the milk and milk products on a weekly basis.

What is a CSA?

A CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It’s a system that connects farmers directly with consumers.

How it works:

  • You buy a subscription or "share" from a local farm before the growing season starts.

  • In return, you get a regular box of fresh, seasonal farm products, usually weekly.

  • Products often include vegetables, fruits, eggs, dairy, meat, or flowers — depending on the farm.

Why people join a CSA:

  • To get fresh, local food straight from the farm.

  • To support small farmers and sustainable agriculture.

  • To eat with the seasons and discover new produce.

  • To build a stronger connection to where their food comes from.
